5 Years of Breaking Point & Future
Mon, 23 Jan 2017 08:33:45 +0000 - Deathlyrage

The mod has not received any updates for quite some time and we wanted to explain why. The Breaking Point Team has been fully dedicated to development on our Standalone project which began back in January 2016 and continues today. Our Kickstarter campaign is going to be launched around March / April. We will then spend the next year working on the game until its full release without Early Access.

Going from the mod to a full fledged standalone won't be an easy task, just like the transition from Arma 2 to Arma 3. The player base has already started to decline due to the rate new issues are introduced and lack of mod updates. We understand that seeing the mod slowly shrink and fall into a state of disrepair is a disappointing thing for players to experience. The Breaking Point Dev team feels like the players deserve something better, something that can actually be finished and fully realized. A complete game that isn't trapped in early access or alpha forever. This is why we have been working so hard the last year on building the foundation of our standalone project and continue to work on it every day.

We had hoped to be able to maintain the mod and work on the standalone in parallel but that has proven to be impossible with the consistent problems created by Arma updates and the demands of developing on a new engine.

Many of you may have concerns about Breaking Point not being the same on Unreal Engine. We understand the concerns, various aspects of the game will be completely different. However, the past 5 years of working on Breaking Point have taught was what works and what our community loves. We will be making sure that those designs carry over into the standalone game.
If you have any doubts about this, please check out our twitch development livestreams and the kickstarter promo video when it becomes available.

There will be one final mod patch before the kickstarter is launched which will fix most of the current major bugs. However, the mod will be open sourced and posted on github to anyone who wants to help out and improve the mod. We can pull requests and patch the mod with those community sourced fixes. One of the side effects of open sourcing the mod is that the community will fragment and everyone will run their own Breaking Point Mod versions with different files. We hope that we can work together to create a better mod experience that doesn't fragment as much as the other open source mods. Our official Breaking Point mod servers, teamspeak, discord, and forums will continue to be maintained by our staff, we are not closing shop yet.

We also plan on open sourcing New Haven and releasing it on Steam Workshop for any Arma Mod to use. Many players have requested this in our standalone development livestreams and because it is such a great map, we would like it to live on.

Feedback will be very important during the creation of the standalone game, please reach out to us via our development streams, the forums, or social media with your thoughts and suggestions.

Thank you for gaming with us during the past 5 years and working with us to make a great game. We really hope to see you all in our development twitch streams through to our crowdfunding and finally the full game release.
